All tournament players: You are required to pickup your scorecards 10 min. before your tee time or face disqualification. -The Rules Committee.

Closing dates for home tournaments; all HOME tournament-closing dates are 12 days before the event. The away dates vary; the away schedule is posted on the web and on the bulletin board at Poplar Creek Grill with the closing date for each away event.

Once you have signed up for a tournament you are responsible for that fee. If you are unable to play it is prudent of YOU to find a replacement. If you are unable to find someone and there is no one on the standby list the tournament fee will still be collected. The club pays green fees to the course and sweeps money for the payout.

Tournament Formats Explained

Tournament Format Committee:

Tournament info is presented 6 weeks before the tournament date. Signups close 12 days (this varies as away courses may require an earlier closing date) before tournament date. Tee times are posted a minimum of 1 week before tournament date.

Razzle Dazzle format:
bullet8-stroke differential (max.) a 10 and 20 handicap may play as a team but the 20 must play as an 18 handicap
bullet20% of total combined handicaps (not index) to be used for tournament
bullet1st thru 6th hole, scramble, *2 tee shots, *2 seconds shots per player
bullet7th thru 12th hole, alternate shot. Par 3’s, 4’s and 5’s, each player hits tee ball, then his partner’s ball, and then select ball to play out the hole
bullet13th thru 18th hole, best ball
bullet2-stroke penalty for each shot required and not hit

  4-Man Scramble:

bullet25% of total combined handicaps (not index) to be used for tournament
bullet4 drives and *4 second shots each player, drives and second shots count on a par 3, 4 or 5
bullet2-stroke penalty for each shot required and not hit

            USGA guidelines:
4-player teams, add three high handicaps together and then divide by 12. Add this total to ½ of the low handicap. This format really evens the field
          EXAMPLE: Player A is a 2 handicap, B is a 10, C is an 18 and D is a 25. 10 + 18 + 25 = 53, divided by 12 = 4.4, ½ of 2 = 1, 4.4 + 1 = 5.4 = a team handicap of 5
          OR:
          20% of low + 15% of 2nd + 10% of 3rd + 5% of high. This equals 4.9 of a 5, 10, 18 & 25
          OR:
50% of lowest handicap is the team handicap

  2-Man Scramble:

bullet8-stroke differential (max.) a 10 and a 20 handicap may play as a team but the 20 must play as an 18 handicap
bullet25% of total combined handicaps (not index) to be used for tournament
bullet4 drives and 4 second shots each player per 9
bulletDrives and second shots count on a par 3, 4, or 5
bullet2-stroke penalty for each shot required and not hit

“Wrong” Star Format

bullet

The “Wrong” Star must tee off first

bullet

The “wrong” star then plays the hole from tee to green and the remaining golfers play a scramble from tee to green

bullet

At the completion of the hole you combine the score of the “wrong” star with the score of the scramble players

bullet

Example: Woods (“Star”) scores a 4, Nicklaus, Palmer and Trevino score a 3, total of the two is 7 on this hole

bullet

Each player in your group must be the “wrong” star a minimum of four (4) holes with a team total of 18 holes

bullet

25% of team handicap rounded up was used to determine tournament handicap

bullet

The “wrong” star plays his own ball and the scramble player’s play from one of the drives they hit and have selected

bullet

You cannot play from the “wrong” star drive.  You must have 18 “wrong” star holes

bullet

Scramble players only: pick, clean and place in the same cut of grass.  You may bump in a bunker

bullet

Post “Wrong” stars score by the appropriate name & hole and the scramble scores on bottom-line where indicated

bullet

In the event of a question as to how to proceed a player may play 2 balls per USGA Rule #3-3 but he must use the following procedure

Announce to a competitor the intention to play a second ball

bullet

Announce which ball he wants to score with if the rules permit

bullet

Report all facts to the Committee unless both balls are the same score

Ties will be broken using the recommended USGA card matching procedures.

 2-Man Best 1-Ball:

bullet90% of each player’s handicap (not index) to be used for tournament
bullet8-stroke differential (max.) a 10 and a 20 handicap may play as a team but the 20 must play as an 18 handicap

bulletPlayer receives 100% of course handicap

2-Man 2-ball

bulletPartners stroke play
bulletEach player plays his own ball, and the combined total of their scores for the round is the score for the side
bullet100% of combined course handicap. (page 44)

Point Par:

bullet100% of handicap (not index)
bulletUse net score to determine points per hole
bullet0 double bogey or more
bullet+1 bogey
bullet+2 par
bullet+3 birdie
bullet+4 eagle
bullet+5 double eagle
bullet+6 4 under par

NCGA Qualifiers:

Teams (or an individual) may win their flight and money but handicaps will be reduced to 90% of 18.4 (19 hdcp) Poplar = 18 hdcp) if necessary and score adjusted accordingly.

 Holiday tournament:

bulletAdd a designated ball to each foursome to score with as a tournament within a "Santa Ball"
bullettournament. A, B, C and D hdcp team, and a individual event. FORMAT TO BE ADDED (when
bulletfinalized).

  Spring Match play:

bulletPlay 18 holes on Saturday, 36 holes on Sunday and 36 holes on Saturday. Tournament would end in 2 weekends.
bulletPage 112 of the 2004/2005 Rules of Golf book has the seeding/pairings guideline for 16 players in each of four flights.
bulletMark, pick, etc:
bulletWhen playing winter rules with the one club "bump" (mark, pick, clean and place) the player must place his ball in the same cut of grass. Reasoning, with the "bump" a player could get relief from a tree or bush.

bulletSuggestions:
bulletRotate tee times.
bulletEach tournament a different flight would tee off first and after 4 rounds it could be determined which flight was the fastest and would then tee off first until another flight plays faster.
bulletForward Tees:
bulletLast, or flights 4 or 5 or 6 play from the forward tees (gold tee’s) if enough would sign up for it. There is a format to make this equitable for all players.

Additions in italics and bold were added after the Board Meeting.
