Local Rule: Flower Beds

Effective January 9, 2014, PCGC now has a local rule regarding the flower beds on holes 17 and 18.

The flower beds surrounding the green at Hole 17, the tee box and fairway at 18 are all considered ground under repair from which play is prohibited. If a player’s ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, the player must take relief under Rule 25-1.  The player must take a drop, without penalty, within one club-length of the point of entry or drop the ball in the designated drop area.  This rule will stay in effect until the ropes are removed.

Note: This rule states the player must take a drop.  While it is generally optional for a player to play from an area designated as ground under repair, the committee has prohibited play from this specific ground under repair.  The rule is to protect the flower beds from any damage.

If a player plays from these flower beds then the penalty is:

  • Match Play – loss of hole
  • Stroke Play – two strokes

This rule was updated from its original language (limited the flower beds to hole #17).

Local Rule: Power Lines

Effective January 9, 2014, PCGC now has a local rule regarding the power lines that are present on several holes at Poplar Creek.

If a ball strikes a permanent elevated power line or cable on the course, the stroke must be cancelled and replayed, without penalty (see rule 20-5). If the ball is not immediately recoverable, another ball may be substituted.

Notes:

  • This rule states that you MUST replay the stroke regardless where the ball ends up including a hole out.
  • This rule does not include striking any other part of the power tower,  If your ball strikes any other part of the tower then you must play the ball where it lies with the stroke counted.

Inclement Weather Policy

Q. Will we play if it rains on tournament day?

A. We will play golf during the rain unless the pro shop closes the course. It is not up to our Tournament Director to make that decision.

Be prepared to play if you signed up even if there is a chance of rain. If the tee times have been posted you are considered to be in the tournament and will owe all fees unless you have a replacement or the Tournament Director has a standby list to fill your spot.

If you are a no show and the course remains open you will owe the tournament fee even if you did not play.

Tournaments of Champions (TOC)

Our season-ending tournament is the Tournament of Champions, better known as the “TOC” and is held usually in September.

How can you play in the TOC?

1) You can qualify by either:

  • Winning your flight during a season tournament
  • Be one of the top 5 spots on the Gilliam Points at the end of the season who have not won a tournament. A non-winner can qualify for the TOC up until the tournament just before the TOC.  An indicator of a non-winner is to look at the Gilliam Points for the top 5 players who don’t have “TOC” next to their names.

Either qualification allows you to play the TOC at a reduced rate.  Note that you are not automatically entered into the TOC – you still have to sign up to play.

2) If you have not otherwise qualified…

  • You may be able to play in the tournament if there are spots available.
  • The entry fee will be at the full course rate.
  • You will not be crowned the TOC Champion even if you come in with low net.
  • You are eligible to win and/or cash in your flight.

Misc notes…

  • The low net score for all flights combined during the TOC will be crowned the TOC Champion and will have their name engraved on the perpetual plaque displayed at Poplar Creek (near the posting computer).  The champ will also get free entry into the following year’s TOC.
  • Prize money earned during the TOC is not reflected in the Gilliam Points in either the current or next season.
